Erasmus Book Club in Lieto, our third meeting

Our guests arrived on Friday night, the 29th of September. Swedish students and their teachers arrived at the Viking Lines port at 19:50. Austrians arrived at the bus station of Turku at 18:55 and Italians to airport of Turku at 20:15.

On Saturday, the 30th of September, we all gathered in our school's auditorium and participated in different team-building activities. After that, Nina and Tina presented the projects and course plans that we had prepared earlier. Then, we had lunch and divided all the students into smaller groups. Each group conducted their own surveys about the benefits of reading. After presenting the surveys to each other, we took a break and then watched the Tove movie in our auditorium.

On the first of October, we gathered outside the Exhibition Centre of Turku at 11 am. Then, we were divided into groups, each consisting of three Finnish students, one Italian, one Swedish, and one Austrian student per group. After the groups were formed, we began doing the tasks that our teachers had assigned to us. While completing the tasks, we also explored the book and food fair. At 2 pm, when every group had finished the tasks, we decided whether we wanted to go home or do something else together. Each student received 10€ for lunch from Erasmus.

On Monday our school day started at 9 am. We began with discussing the Tove-movie and the book fair in groups. Afterwards we started working and processing the book that we had to read before this movement. The book was called Taikatalvi. Then we had a break and started project work at about 10.45. We went through the past lesson plans that were made in other countries and also shared ideas and experiences with each other. After that we had a lunch break and at 12.15, we started planning our next lesson plans. At 14.00 we had a lecture where we listened to a person who does research on Tove Jansson. After that everybody was free to do whatever, they wanted. Most of us went to a barbecue in the evening.

On Tuesday school started at 9 o’clock. The day began with conversations about the lecture the day before. After that we proceeded to continue working on the lesson plan project. After working with the project, the guest students had an introduction to our school library and visited it. Next, we had lunch and from there we moved to Turku for a tour of the city's center. During the tour we visited significant places in the city of Turku like the cathedral, library and city square. Our school day ended at 4 o’clock. In the evening, we divided into separate groups and prepared food for the ending celebration. The goal was to prepare food from all of the different cultures.

On Wednesday our school day started at 12 o’clock with lunch. After lunch we had a quiz about the tour before for the guest students. When the quiz was over, we resumed with the lesson plans. The goal was to prepare our plans for the whole group. When everyone was ready with their work, we presented the the lesson plans and voted to pick the best one to add it to the final plan. After the vote at 16 o’clock we moved to our auditorium and every participant was awarded with the certificate of attendance. Then we started the ending celebration and partied until 20 o’clock when the Swedish had to leave.

On Thursday we arrived at the school at 8.15 am. We said our goodbyes with the Italians and the Austrians. After that the guest students left for Turku and for the airport by bus.
